Best Breweries in Copenhagen - 3 Day Itinerary

In Copenhagen when it comes to craft beer, Mikkeller is King. And absolutely worth checking out some of the many ways its intertwined into the city from breweries to restaurants. Obviously Carlsberg founded in 1847 deserves a shoutout for being first to brew Danish beer but it was Mikkeller who in 2005 set out to revolutionize beer and create a counter movement against Carlsberg. In fact, the wifi password at Mikkeller’s first bar was “I hate Carlsberg.”

Nowadays there is no shortage of places to find good craft beer. We will layout a few of the spots we checked out and others we didn’t make it to but that you should add to your 3 day Copenhagen trip.

Day 1: Start at Mikkeller

Address: Refshalevej 169B, 1432 København, Denmark

We choose to go to Baghaven out near Reffen Street Food Market. But there are several in the city to choose from. Rent bikes to feel like a real local, make a pit stop in Freetown Christiania to see an area unlike any other, and then arrive at Mikkeller Baghaven.

IPAs, Sours, Stouts they have it all. Pick your poison and sit outside enjoying the waterways looking back at Copenhagen city centre aka Indre By.

Other Locations: Mikkeller Warpigs, Mikkeller Bar, Mikkeller & Friends

Day 2: Brus in Nørrebro

Address: Guldbergsgade 29, 2200 København, Denmark

Located in the Nørrebro neighborhood and owned by To Øl Beer this place is a can’t miss. It’s right next door to Bæst Pizza which is Copenhagen hot spot. Or grab food from Brus’ resataurant which is operated by Christian Gadient - Denmark’s youngest Michelin Star chef.

There are lots of beers and styles to choose from and the vibe is perfect, much like Copenhagen.

Day 3: Selma + Åben

Address: Rømersgade 20, 1362 København, Denmark

Selma is a contemporary Scandinavian restaurant serving up traditional smørrebrød in a modern way alongside Mikkeller’s amazing beers.

Address: Slagtehusgade 15, 1715 København, Denmark

Aben from the Danish word “Open” opened it’s doors on June 9th 2017. Located in Copenhagen’s Meat Packing district in Vesterbro, what started as a passion project has turned into Brewery of the Year winner in 2019.

We went for the SPF 30 Hazy IPA and really enjoyed it. If you are still thirsty after your stop Mikkeller WarPigs is just a few steps away.
